The Believer Real Life Rock Top Ten

May 21, 2012 - 1:53pm -- Alison

(1) Alison Faith Levy, “Itsy Bitsy Spider,” from World of Wonder (Mystery Lawn Music). On an album of children’s songs, this glorious recording—with startling new verses pitting a mouse against a cat, a monkey against a tiger, a hippo against a snake, and the spider against a bumblebee—comes forth huge, pounding, with a passionate vocal from Levy and, from producer Allen Clapp, the most convincing re-creation of Phil Spector’s Wall of Sound anywhere.

Babies Gotta Have It

June 1, 2012 - 11:57am -- Alison

How’s this for a cool name for a kindie band? The Sippy Cups. Yup, Sippy Cups aren’t just things from which you drink, but they are also a rock band for kids. And Alison Faith Levy, Sippy Cups band member formerly known as “Sippy Alison,” has returned to the kindie music scene to create a solo album for kids! Her newest CD, World of Wonder includes such catchy tunes as “Reach for the Sky,” “Like a Spinning Top,” and CW’s favorite “Detours” (which is all about driving and the detours we take)!

Itty Bitty Review "World of Wonder" - Zooglobble

May 2, 2012 - 1:38pm -- Alison

San Francisco's Sippy Cups were one of the first new (21st-century) acts to attract a lot of attention in the wake of the kids music explosion of circa 2006. They had a big, '60s-inspired sound and look (though they weren't limited by that era), and despite their large size, toured quite a bit. The band is on hiatus - maybe permanently - but some of the members of the band are making music for kids again.

My Springfield Mommy

May 21, 2012 - 1:50pm -- Alison

Kid's pop-music artist, Alison Faith Levy, has taken a break from the kindie psychedelic rock 'n roll circus for kids called The Sippy Cups and work in the "grown-up" music venue to return to her roots and create a delightful solo album designed just for kids age 2-8 (and their parents, of course), called World of Wonder (Mystery Lawn Music, 2012).

You Gotta Have Faith

Wild multi-colored costumes and set design. Elaborate staging. Psychedelic lyrics. Yup, it's the San Francisco music scene, even for children's music. The Sippy Cups were (and still are) a fixture and major attraction. The heart (or perhaps the "T" cup) was female singer "Sippy" Alison Faith Levy, who is now striking out on her own as a solo kindie artist.

SF Chronicle: Winter Wonderland Kids Series gets family rocking

March 27, 2012 - 4:48pm -- admin

Two mom rockers are bringing their bands to Berkeley's Starry Plough on Sunday for the under-4-foot dance crowd.

Alison Faith Levy has put together a three-part series at the Plough, that runs through March. Levy spent five heady years in the Sippy Cups, described as a psychedelic kids rock band. (Their "I Wanna Be Elated" is a take on the Ramones' "I Wanna Be Sedated.")
